A trip over the Coorong in South Australia is one of the most beautiful flights in Australia - and very accessible.

You can be collected from anywhere with an airport, but the easiest for us is from Nhill or Horsham in Western Victoria.

From here we head west over the fertile Wimmera farming lands. After around 30 minutes the coastline appears on the horizon. We join the coast at Salt Creek and descend to around 1000' and skim over the spectacular beach and freshwater lakes of the Coorong National Park.

There are roads traveling beside the lakes but you are left wondering why you would bother to drive. From above we see the waves rolling in on your left and the tranquil and colourful freshwater of the Coorong on the right. There's barely a footprint to be seen. Usually we see pelicans and all manner of sea birds wheeling and circling below. it's not uncommon to see dolphins and occasionally whales swimming in the ocean.

Around 1 hour after departure we fly over the Murray River mouth. The water leaves colors and patterns fanning out from the beach as the fresh and salt water mix.

A few minutes later we are preparing to land at Goolwa Airport. You will see the township as well as the mariner with its many boats. In the close distance you will see Port Elliot, Middletown and Victor Harbour. In the far distance you will see Cape Jervis, the Adelaide hills & Kangaroo Island if the air is clear.

After landing we collect a car and you have the choice of beaches, cafes, shops, boating or just sitting around relaxing to fill your day.

Our return flight takes us over Lake Alexandrina & Lake Albert and then the short journey back to our home base.

This is one of the best one day trips going and passengers are invariably amazed at what is seen in such a short time.
